GCC 2023 and Lockball
Welcome to the first entry of the official Dotekicept blog! I’m Jamie (founder of Dotekicept) and I hope that this blog will be a good way to share development updates, big announcements, my experiences at different events, and more!
The first thing I’d like to bring up here is my experience at the first Game Con Canada (GCC) back in June, just before Pongspin’s Steam release. While it was some months ago, I just want to say that it was incredible being able to demo Pongspin alongside other talented developers with the Calgary Game Developers Association, as well as interacting with many interesting people within the industry.
I also took a little time to explore around the convention. Seeing other game developers showing off their games, impressive cosplays and people just being passionate about the things they love was so cool to see. Can’t wait for GCC 2024!
This ODST armor replica was amazing.
Pongspin was received very well by those who had played it at GCC, and Steam reviews have also been very positive. It makes me very happy to see people enjoying it, and I hope that with future updates, you will all enjoy it even more!
Speaking of which, Pongspin v2.0 (the Lockball update) will be the first major update since release. As the name of the update implies, v2.0 will be the debut of a brand new game mode, Lockball. Here is a video previewing this new mode uploaded to our YouTube channel back in August.
Unlike the fast-paced nature of the current game modes, Lockball’s gameplay is more rooted in strategy. The paddle and the ball cannot move at the same time, so while the ball is frozen, you must predict where you think it will collide with the core based on it’s trajectory, and move your paddle accordingly before time runs out.
There are seven stages (or “light bulbs” as they are referred to in this mode), and with each one, the time limit gradually becomes shorter and the ball will become more difficult to predict.
The Lockball update is very close to completion, and will be released by the end of October or early November. I can’t wait for you all to play it!
And that’s all I really have for this entry, there won’t be a set schedule for these blog posts (at least not right now), but I’ll try to get them out at least somewhat consistently. But until next time, thanks so much for reading, and I hope you’ll all continue to enjoy what we have to offer!
